Promoting Basic Human Rights for People in State Custody

As expressed in the strategic priorities of state agencies, e.g., the departments of Children, Youth, and Families and Corrections, Washington is committed to racial equity, safety and promoting successful community transitions for individuals detained in secure facilities. What needs to happen in education, health care, voting rights and other state policies/programs to make these priorities a reality?

In an interactive session, participants will learn about bills being considered by the 2024 State Legislature, including ones that would limit solitary confinement and promote voting rights and access to education. Other high priority social and economic policy bills will be discussed briefly.

Friday, January 26
